GUIDE TO PDI (PISTON DISTRIBUTOR SYSTEMS)

Overview: Showa DPB, DSA piston distributor systems deliver small doses of oil to
multiple points on many types of machinery. In order to function these systems need a
lubricator with a timer, a network of tubing and hoses, and piston distributors.

Lubricators: Showa lubricators which operate piston distributors are usually 100-110v,
or 200-220v. Pressure range from 12 kg/cm2 (172 psi) to 15 kg/cm2 (215 psi) on
systems which are operating properly. Timers are built into some lubricators and others
use the controls on the machine as their timers. Some type of timer must be used for the
system to function. All lubricators contain a pump and motor. All pumps used in these
systems are continuous gear pumps which also contain depressurizing mechanisms. Piston
distributor lubricators must have depressurizing mechanisms to function properly. Other
accessories found on these units are pressure switches, float switches, instant feed buttons
and pressure gauges. Lubricators have part numbers starting with LCA & LCB followed
by a series of numbers. Older units have numbers like MLA03W. Pump and motor units
which are used on these units have numbers like MLA & MLB followed by two numerical
digits and a W.

Piston Distributors: DPB, DSA piston Distributors are the most common showa piston
distributors you will find on machinery. They come with different outlets and thread
sizes. Dosage Nipples are attached to the outlet of the piston distributor which determines
the outlet volume of oil. Example, 0.1cc or 1.0cc are just two different flow outputs that
can be selected.
